Description

Hillside Cottage is a former farmhouse, now a house, dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of coursed limestone rubble with dressed stone quoins and has a corrugated iron roof. The building has a long rectangular plan and features two storeys plus an attic. The garden front has a four-bay, three-windowed facade. The facade is lit by two and three-light double-chamfered stone-mullioned windows, with a stopped hood over the lower left-hand window. There is a 20th-century plank door located off-centre to the right, framed by a Tudor-arched surround.

The right gable end has two-light stone-mullioned casements, one of which has hollow-moulded mullions. To the left, there is a 1.5-storey, single bay extension that includes a dormer with a 2-light hollow-moulded stone-mullioned casement, and a similar casement on the ground floor below. A plank door is located at the lower right. The wall facing the road is illuminated by two 2-light stone-mullioned casements, one featuring hollow-moulding, and one double-chamfered single light at the lower right. The gable ends of the main body have flat coping. There is a 20th-century stack at the left gable end, along with axial and lateral stacks on the main body.

Inside, there is a spine beam and a barrel vaulted cellar located under the left end of the main body.
