Description
46 and 48 Cricklade Street are two shops dating from the early 18th century. They are constructed from coursed squared limestone rubble, which is now painted, and feature a Welsh slate roof with rebuilt brick stacks at both ends. The building has two storeys, an attic, and a cellar, with a two-window range.
On the first floor, there are two chamfered stone mullion-and-transom windows with iron casements. The ground floor has two small matching 19th-century shop fronts that include pilaster strips and decorated console brackets flanking a frieze and moulded cornice; the cornice on the left side is now obscured by a shop sign. The right shop front (No. 46) has a single-pane window and a glazed door recessed to the left in a panelled reveal, which opens to the cellar in the stall riser. The left shop front (No. 48) is similar but features a two-pane window, and the opening to the cellar has been bricked up. There is one hipped dormer with a 20th-century window. The deep eaves have a gutter supported on six curved wrought-iron brackets, dating from the 18th or 19th century. The interiors have not been inspected.
