Description
This is a chest tomb located in the churchyard approximately 1.5 meters south of the tower of the Church of St. John. It dates from the late 17th century and is made of limestone. The tomb has lyre-ended shapes with acanthus leaf carvings on the scroll sides, although the ends are damaged. On the south side, there is a bolection moulded inscriptions panel supported by two carved figures in robes; the figure on the left stands on a skull, while the figure on the right is positioned on cross-bones. The inscription is illegible but is said to refer to a member of the Poole family. The north side features a moulded and recessed inscription panel with flanking acanthus leaf panels. The tomb is topped and based with thick cyma moulding.
