Description

Brightley Bridge is a road bridge over the Okement River, likely incorporating some fabric from the 16th century and partly rebuilt in 1858. It is constructed of stone rubble with dressed granite voussoirs and coping stones, featuring three arches that are probably widened on both sides. The arches on the south side are segmental, while those on the north side are slightly 4-centred. The north (downstream) side has reconstructed flat cutwaters, whereas the cutwaters on the south (upstream) side are triangular and may be original. The bridge has straight parapets with swept out abutments.
