Description
The Church of St Andrew is a Grade I listed building located in Whitchurch, built in the Norman period, with elements from the 15th and 19th centuries. It is constructed of granite and features a slate roof. The church includes a nave and aisles, and a tower that is divided into three stages, topped with a crenellated parapet and an octagonal stair turret. The south door is of Norman design, while the chancel dates back to around 1300. The west tower, nave, south transept, and north aisle were added in the 15th century, and the chancel aisles and south porch were constructed in the 19th century. The aisles contain Perpendicular windows. Inside, there is a monument in the Easter Sepulchre recess dedicated to Paschaw Allyn, who died in 1626, featuring a long row of kneeling children on a slate plate. Another monument, created by Weston for Francis Pengelly, who died in 1722, includes an oval relief depicting the Resurrection of the Dead, along with two standing and two reclining female figures. There is also a piscina present.
