Description
The Norrish chest tomb, located approximately 10 metres north-east of the aisle of the Church of St Michael, is a Grade II listed structure dated 1843 in memory of Mary Norrish. Made of limestone, the tomb has a rectangular shape with a moulded plinth and a flat lid that features a soffit moulding. Each long side of the tomb is divided into two bays by plain flat pilasters, and each corner is adorned with similar clasping pilasters. The left panel on the south side is inscribed in plain capitals, noting the death of Mary Norrish of Fuidge in 1843. Other panels also feature inscriptions in plain capitals, documenting the deaths of various family members up to 1916. The tomb is surrounded by low granite coping stones, which include sockets for cast iron boundary railings.
