Description
Week Farmhouse, dating from 1735 (also known as Weke Farmhouse), is likely from the 16th or early 17th century, with various alterations and additions over time. The building features stone and cob walls that are plastered, and it stands two storeys high with five windows fitted with modern casements. A massive projecting end chimney is a prominent feature of the structure.
Inside, the first-floor ceiling conceals earlier, higher hewn roof trusses with curved collars, and the floorboards are 20 inches wide. There is a square baluster staircase with column newels. Part of the ground floor includes 18th-century dado fielded panelling. The doors are two-panel doors and wide-boarded doors that have wrought hinges on lugs. A notable feature is the enriched marble mantel from around 1830. The original part of the farmhouse forms a long rectangle with a small wing at right angles to the east. An early 19th-century porch has been added, which is supported by elongated cast iron columns.
