Description

The Robert Beckley monument is a chest tomb located 3 meters south of the south porch of the Church of St Swithin. It dates from 1701 and is made of red sandstone that is squared and coursed, topped with a slate slab. The tomb features a chamfered plinth and a cyma recta moulded cornice. The slate slab is inscribed around the perimeter in Latin, honoring Robert Beckley, who was a rector and died on 19 October 1701. In the center, there is a poem in English that extols his virtues.
