Description

This pair of adjacent anonymous headstones, located approximately 34 metres south-south-west of the tower of the Church of St Giles, is likely from the late 18th century. Both headstones are made of slate and stand side by side. The left headstone has a square top and is about 500 millimetres high, while the right headstone has a rounded top and stands approximately 650 millimetres high. Each headstone features inscriptions in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, with poetic epitaphs that do not include names or dates. The left inscription is addressed to parents and suggests it commemorates the death of more than one infant. In contrast, the right inscription speaks of an elderly person "near ninety years" and is directed to their "children's children's children." Both stones have been relocated to their current position.
