Description

This is a headstone dated 1760, located approximately 8 metres south of the aisle of the Church of St Giles in the Wood. It commemorates James Cock and is made of slate. The upright, square-headed slab stands about 450 millimetres high. The top of the headstone features a carved skull surrounded by scrolled decoration. The inscription uses Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, noting the death of James Cock, Clerk of the parish, in 1760, along with his son James. The reverse side is inscribed in memory of Hugh Cock, who died in 1823.
