Description
This description covers a pair of adjacent headstones located approximately 33 metres south-south-west of the tower of the Church of St Giles. Likely dating from the 18th century, both headstones are made of slate, with one positioned in front of the other. The front headstone stands about 450 millimetres high and features concave corners, inscribed with Roman serif upper and lower case lettering. It is anonymous and undated, expressing a farewell to family from a husband and father. Behind it is another headstone, approximately 550 millimetres high, which has a shaped head carved with a skull and scrolled decoration. Although the inscription on this back headstone is not visible, it records the death of Judith Voddem in 1827. These two headstones have been repositioned to their current location.
