Description
The barn and shippons located approximately 10 metres to the south of Christmas Farmhouse are likely from the late 17th century, with some alterations made in the late 19th century. The structure features rendered cob on a stone rubble plinth, with parts rebuilt in stone rubble. It has a half-hipped roof covered in corrugated iron, which slopes down (it was probably originally thatched).
The building is arranged in a range that runs approximately north-east to south-west, facing south-east, with the ground sloping to the right. The barn includes central opposed cart entrances, a small one-storey shippon or stable to the left, and a larger shippon to the right with a loft above.
On the exterior, the barn has a central cart entrance with a pair of large plank doors, likely from the early 20th century, and a wooden lintel. To the right of this entrance is a small-paned window, probably from the 20th century, set in an older opening with a wooden lintel. The small shippon or stable to the left has a plank door with a wooden lintel. The adjoining shippon to the right features a central loft opening with a wooden lintel and a small-paned window, as well as a 19th-century slatted wooden window to the left with a wooden lintel. There are also a pair of plank doors divided by a stone pier, with a continuous wooden lintel above. The rear cart entrance of the barn has been blocked, likely in the late 19th century, and a small plank door has been inserted.
Inside the barn, there is a six-bay roof supported by two late 17th-century trusses with straight principals and halved lap-jointed collars, two 19th-century trusses without collars, and one 20th-century truss.
