Description
The walls to the Fairwater are located along the mill leat that runs parallel to the pavement of Crossley Moor Road in Kingsteignton. These walls are likely from the 19th century, although the leat itself, known as the "Fairwater," has ancient origins. The stone rubble walls support the leat, which provides water to both the Higher and Lower Mills. In 1879, the annual Whitsuntide Ram Roast ceremony in Kingsteignton was still being celebrated, believed to have originated from the tradition of cleaning out the Fairwater. The leat is considered a picturesque feature of Kingsteignton, as noted in White's Devonshire from 1878-79.
