Description
Higher Crownley Farmhouse barn is located about 50 meters southwest on the opposite side of the road. This barn dates from the late 16th century or 17th century and features an added wing. It is constructed of cob on a granite rubble plinth made of large stones and has a corrugated-iron roof. On the northeast side, there is a wide doorway with a flat, chamfered wood lintel, although the jambs are missing. The roof includes at least two side-pegged jointed-cruck trusses, and there are slots for butt purlins, although only a few of these survive, along with end slots for a former threaded ridge. Barns with jointed crucks are rare in Devon. The adjacent farmhouse is now in a state of significant ruin.
