Description

High Rixdale is a 17th-century house, originally the seat of the Trape family. The eastern portion of the house was destroyed by fire and subsequently rebuilt. The south front of the original house retains its character, despite the addition of new doors and windows, and features two large external chimneys. It has five windows, mostly sash windows. The interior contains three fine 17th-century ceilings and chimney pieces; one chimney piece is dated 1669 and bears the initials TT. The parlour ceiling is adorned with plasterwork depicting four lions and unicorns, along with a cornice of fleur-de-lys.
