Description
The cap of a chest tomb located in St Mary's Churchyard in Bickington dates from the late 17th century and is made of granite. It has a moulded design and features a carved inscription that reads: "Here lyeth the body of Thomas Hext who was buried ye 28th day of June ano ... 1671." A small piece has been cut out from the center of the stone and filled with cement. The inscription also honors his wife Joane, who passed away in 1696. This tomb cap has been repurposed as the outer step to the priest's door.
