Description
Stone Farmhouse is a farmhouse that was formerly a manor house, dating from around the late 16th century, with alterations made in the 18th century. It is constructed of rendered stone rubble and has an asbestos slate roof with gabled and hipped ends. The building features a three-room layout with a through passage, a rear lateral hall stack, and a stack at the higher gable end that heats the inner room. The lower end stack has been removed, and there is a square stair turret at the rear of the higher end, along with later rear outshuts. The farmhouse is two storeys high and has a four-window range. The ground floor has 18th-century three-light casements, of which only one retains its leaded panes. The first floor has 19th and 20th-century casements, with the right-hand window at the lower end being blocked. The through passage doorway is located to the right of centre. At the rear, the square stair turret features a slate hood mould over a small window.
Inside, there may be an inserted floor in the hall, which has a moulded axial ceiling beam with two ovolos and two hollows, as well as bar steps. At the inner end of the hall, there is a similar moulded half beam now located in the inner room due to a moved partition. The hall also contains a chamfered beam with step stops that runs parallel to the main beam. The inner room features chamfered beams with step stops, some of which appear to be reused. The through passage has later partitions, and the fireplaces are blocked, with the former kitchen fireplace at the lower end having been removed. The roof, dating from around the 18th century, consists of eight trusses with straight principals crossed at the apices and side-pegged collars, while the rafters, purlins, and ridge-piece have been replaced.
