Description
The former stables and coach house, located immediately west of the London Inn in Stoke Fleming, is likely from the 18th or early 19th century. The building is constructed of painted local slate rubble and features an asbestos slate hipped roof. It is a detached structure positioned at right angles to the London Inn and has a rectangular plan.
The coach house occupies the left end, featuring wide doorways at both the front and rear. The integral stables are at the right end, with a central doorway at the front and a loft above. The left side of the coach house has been converted into lavatories.
The building is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical four-window range. It includes 19th and 20th century two and three-light fixed windows with lapped panes of glass. To the left, there is a wide doorway leading to the coach house with a square section timber lintel. To the right, a doorway leads to the stables, also with a square section timber lintel and a 20th century door; above this doorway is a loft doorway with a 20th century plank door and a barrel hoist that is still in working order. The interior was not inspected.
