Description
This is a 16th or 17th century merchant's house of a "deux corps de batiments" type, though significantly altered over time. It comprises two main sections. The rear kitchen block, now separately addressed as 49A, retains more of its original character, while the front portion was heavily refronted in the earlier 19th century. The building is three storeys high and has two windows on the front elevation. It has a Welsh slate roof with old masonry stacks. The front is timber-framed and slate-hung, featuring a dentil eaves cornice. Paired architraved sash windows with glazing bars are present. A ground floor loggia, supported by granite Tuscan columns, extends over the pavement. An entrance to a side passage is framed with reeded details and includes a raised and fielded panel door. A modern shopfront now occupies the ground floor.
