Description
East Stert is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century, with later alterations and additions. It is constructed of stone rubble and features a low-pitched slate roof with gabled and hipped ends. The building is two storeys high and has a seven-window range. The ground floor includes a moulded three-light stone mullion window in the center, which has 4-centred arch lights and a label. Above this, there is a three-light hollow-chamfered stone mullion window, along with a later stone window to the right. The remaining windows are 19th-century two and three-light casements, some of which have brick segmental arches. Both ends of the building appear to have been rebuilt to some extent. There are doorways on the left and right, each with slated hoods. A large stone chimney stack is located on the rear wall. At the rear, there is a circa 19th-century addition with a hipped roof and an outshut. Inside, the hall features a moulded timber ceiling and a granite chimneypiece. There is a blocked doorway on the north side of the hall with a 4-centred arch head, likely leading to a former staircase. A small section of a plank and muntin screen is present at the lower end of the hall.
