Description

Northgate is the remnant of a medieval town gateway, renovated around 1940. It likely once contained a chamber above the gateway, accessible via a staircase on the west side. The structure is built from roughly-shaped Devonian limestone rubble, and now features a modern parapet. The round-arched gateway is constructed with similarly textured rubble stones serving as the voussoirs.
