Description

A pair of cottages, likely originating as a single dwelling in the 16th century, underwent substantial remodelling in the late 19th century and further extension in the 20th century. The construction is of rendered stone rubble and cob, with brick dressings. The roof is hipped and thatched. A shared lateral rear stack serves both cottages, with remnants of herringbone slatework visible on the left-hand cottage, indicating a significant alteration to an earlier structure during the 19th century. A single-room bay was added to the right-hand end in the 20th century, along with single-story and two-story rear wings, creating an overall U-shaped plan. The cottages originally presented a symmetrical two-window facade each, but now have a five-window range, incorporating the added bay. All windows are two-light casements, with two panes at the upper level and three panes at ground floor level. The windows have cambered brick arches and quoins. Hipped thatch roofs cover the 20th-century porches. A lean-to is present at the left end. Inside, the left-hand cottage fireplace retains herringbone slatework.
