Description
This is a group of seven headstones with accompanying footstones, located approximately 5 to 10 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St James. They date from the late 18th century to the early 19th century. Four pairs are made of stone, while three are made of slate. Three of the pairs are set back to back. The headstones commemorate Joseph Pyke (died 1812), featuring an angel's bust on a nowy-arched headstone; Alice Parkin (died 1776), also with a nowy-arched design and an angel blowing a trumpet at the head; and George Parkin (died 1772) and Hugh Parkin (died 1802), both with angels' busts on their nowy-arched headstones. Additionally, John Giles (died 1724), George Crocombe (died 1731), and William Rawl (died 1821) are also commemorated, each with angels' busts on their headstones.
