Description
Three pigsties and an adjoining cart shed, likely built in the early 19th century, are located in the farmyard southwest of South Yarde Farmhouse. The pigsties are constructed of stone rubble and feature a slate roof with gabled ends. The adjoining cart shed is made of cob and stone rubble, topped with a corrugated iron roof, also gabled at the ends. The buildings are arranged parallel to and facing the farmhouse, on an east-west axis. The rectangular cart shed has two bays and is open-fronted, connecting to the pigsties at the west end. The exterior of the pigsties includes three timber doors on the front, while the cart shed has a timber post dividing the bays. The interior has not been inspected. This group of farm buildings is unusually well-preserved and is extremely important to the setting of the grade I medieval house at South Yarde.
