Description
The apiary located 15 metres south-east of Glebe House is an early to mid 19th century structure. It is built from stone rubble and features a conical thatched roof topped with a wrought iron weathervane. The building has a polygonal shape and is designed in the Gothick style.
On the south-west side, there is a triangular-headed doorway with a stone lintel and a plank door. Flanking this doorway are two triangular-headed windows that have Y bars and transoms. Above the doorway, there is a small cruciform stone opening. Each side of the apiary includes three tiers of horizontal timber pieces, which are set into the stone and serve as flight holes for bees coming to and from the hives that were housed inside. The top tiers feature wooden landings.
