Description
The fishpond retaining walls, located approximately 150 metres southeast of West Molland House, are likely from the early 18th century. They are constructed from coursed stone rubble, with some sections laid vertically and unmortared. The structure consists of a series of three irregularly-shaped fishponds that are divided by dams, situated below a spring in the valley southeast of West Molland Barton. The ponds feature unmortared retaining walls, while a mortared rubble retaining wall supports the bank behind the ponds. One of the ponds includes a small island. Although the retaining walls probably date to the 18th century, it is likely that the fishponds themselves are much older, possibly dating back to the 16th century.
