Description

The Lower Bidacott Farmhouse dates to 1878 and is one of a group of late 19th-century farmhouses built on the Rolle estate in the area. Constructed of unrendered stone rubble with brick dressings, it has a hipped slate roof with a large axial brick stack and a stack at the right gable. The building follows an overall F-shaped plan, with three rooms in line, the two right-hand rooms framing the stairhall, and two gabled two-storey service wings projecting from the rear of the two left-hand rooms. The two-storey, four-window front attempts symmetry on the right-hand side, with three sixteen-paned horned sash windows above two similar sashes flanking a brick-and-stone rubble porch with a gabled slate roof featuring shaped bargeboards. A datestone marked 'M.R.1878' is set within the gable. The main entrance is a 19th-century plank door with an overlight. All openings have cambered brick lintels and quoins, with the lintel on the porch doorway being chamfered. The fenestration includes twin twelve-paned sashes at the left end, over a tripartite twelve-paned sash with four-paned sliding sidelight sashes.
