Description

This is a range of farm buildings located to the south of Higher Aylescott Farmhouse, consisting of a threshing barn with attached shelter sheds, and detached stables with a granary above. The buildings date from the mid-19th century and are constructed with Morte slates and slate roofs. The barn features a gabled upper end and a half-hipped lower end, while the granary and stables have gable ends. The lower shelter sheds have a single Roman clay tiled roof.

The barn has a shelter shed extending from its right end, and another shelter shed with a loft over extends at right angles to the rear of the barn. The granary above the stables is rectangular in plan. The barn includes a stone rubble porch without a roof on the west side, flanking double doors with a cambered arch. The cattle shelter, which has a loft over, features two partially blocked arched openings on the south side with a loft door above. The granary and stables have later external stone steps on the west side leading to the loft door. There are flat brick arched openings below on each side of the doorway, which has a slate-roofed porch. Window openings are present on each floor, and there is a door to the right at the north gable end, along with a triangular owl hole at the south gable end. This range of farm buildings is included for its group value.
