Description

A cottage, likely dating from the late 16th century, has undergone significant remodelling in the 19th century and extensions to the rear in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The walls are a mix of rendered stone rubble and cob, with an asbestos slate roof. A rendered stack with a tapered cap sits at the right end, sharing a common structure with the adjacent Coriander Cottage. A brick stack is located at the rear of the kitchen wing. The cottage originally comprised a single room, with a two-storey kitchen wing added to the rear, extending partially across the rear of Coriander Cottage. Due to a 20th-century replacement of the roof structure, the building's development is complex and somewhat obscured. It is believed the cottage may have initially been a parlour to The Old Bakehouse, with a subsequent partition wall and stack inserted between the two buildings – the roofspace between them is characterized by a thin lath and plaster partition and sawn-off bakehouse purlins. At a later date, a blocked first-floor doorway connected the cottage to Coriander Cottage. The front elevation features a four-panelled door with the upper two panels glazed, and a four-pane sash window on each floor to the left of the door. The interior has not been inspected.
