Description
Higher House is a farmhouse dating from the 17th century, with possibly earlier origins, and has been altered and extended in the 20th century. It is constructed of unrendered stone rubble and features a slate roof with gable ends. At the rear, there is a lateral hall stack with a tapered cap that has been heightened in brick. The right end has a rubble stack with off-sets and a brick shaft, while a tall lateral stack at the front heats the upper end of the house. The layout consists of a 3-room through-passage plan, with a right-angled extension at the front upper end, creating an overall L-shaped plan. The building has two storeys and a four-window range of 2-light casements, each with six panes per light. The ground floor includes three 3-light and one 2-light casement, all with six panes per light. There is a stone rubble porch with a leanto slate roof and brick dressings, featuring a six-panelled door with the upper two panels glazed. The interior has not been inspected.
