Description
1 and 2 Taw Vale Parade are a pair of houses built between 1810 and 1830. They feature smooth-plastered mass wall construction and a natural slate roof that is hipped at the ends, topped with crested ridge-tiles. The chimney stacks are made of rendered brick with a platband and have eight old pots with toothed cresting, showcasing an Italianate style.
These houses are designed as mirror plan double-depth structures, with the main range at the front being one room wide and heated from a shared axial stack. They stand two storeys tall and have a symmetrical five-bay front with deep boxed eaves. The front elevation is adorned with a dentil cornice and a platband at the first-floor level. The windows are equipped with external sliding sun shutters.
Each house has outer round-headed doorways with recessed inner arches, both featuring small-pane 20th-century glazed front doors and fanlights. The central bay of the range includes a round-headed niche, cill blocks, and a blind first-floor window with a moulded architrave and cill blocks. The ground-floor windows are fitted with tripartite horned sashes, with the center window having two panes and No. 1 retaining outer four-pane lights. The first floor has four 12-pane hornless sashes. Additionally, the right return of No. 2 has a round-headed stair window facing Litchdon Lane.
The houses are part of a group of fine 19th-century townhouses on Taw Vale Parade.
