Description
Loyton Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 17th century or earlier, with alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is colourwashed and rendered, likely made of cob and stone rubble, and features a thatched roof that is hipped at the ends. The rear has a catslide roof where the outshut is covered with bitumen-painted slate and corrugated asbestos. There are two axial stacks and one rear lateral stack at the junction with the outshut.
The plan consists of a single depth main range with a rear outshut that has been raised to form a gabled wing at the rear left. Although the interior was not inspected during the survey in 1986, it appears to contain three heated rooms with an approximately central entrance leading directly into the centre room. The exterior is two storeys high and has an asymmetrical front with five windows. There is a glazed two-leaf garden door located approximately in the centre. The windows are late 19th or 20th century timber casements with glazing bars. The interior features chamfered cross beams on the ground floor, and there may be other interesting features, including the possibility of early roof timbers.
