Description

The Mary Peard chest tomb, located in the churchyard of the Church of St George in Tiverton, dates from around 1780 and was restored in 1968. It is made of Portland stone and features a marble lid. The chest has fielded panels on its sides and ends, and it is inscribed with the text: 'The family tomb of Mary Peard dated 31 December 1780 was restored in 1968 by the Mary Peard Trust'. There is also a decayed inscription on the lid and additional inscriptions for William Dickinson, who died in 1955, and his wife, who died in 1867. Mary Peard is noted for having donated £1,000 to the Church of St George.
