Description
A pair of outbuildings, likely used for storage, dating from around 1800. They are constructed of random rubble flint and have gable-end corrugated iron roofs. The buildings are two storeys high and consist of single-celled structures that run parallel to each other, flanking the approach from the parish church to Hemyock Castle. Each west elevation features a pointed stone doorway arch, with one door being planked and studded. There is a pointed window on the ground floor of each building, one of which is blocked while the other has a central mullion and saddle bars. Above, there is loft access, also pointed. The buildings have collar rafter trusses that are morticed and pegged at the apex. They are part of an attractive group that includes the castle house, gatehouse, and the parish church. These outbuildings were likely constructed during the time of General Simcoe, the first Governor General of Canada.
