Description
Higher Perry Farmhouse is a house that was originally a farmhouse, dating from the mid-17th century, with possibly an earlier core, and remodeled in the 19th century. It is constructed of plastered cob on rubble footings, with cob or rubble stacks topped with 19th-century brick, and features a thatched roof. The house has a three-room plan and faces south, with the left (west) end slightly projecting from the main range. There are gable end stacks for the outer rooms, with the right stack projecting from the wall, and an axial stack to the left of center serving the middle room.
The building is two storeys high and has a regular but not symmetrical four-window front, featuring similar late 19th-century and early 20th-century casements, all with glazing bars, some of which contain panes of original glass. The first-floor windows are half dormers with thatched gables above. The door is positioned to the right of center, behind a 20th-century gabled porch. The outer rooms have plain chamfered crossbeams, while the central room features a 17th-century crossbeam with ovolo moulding and scroll stops, along with a rubble fireplace that has an oak lintel treated similarly. The roof has not been inspected.
