WOOLFARDISWORTHY SS 80 NW 6/290 Foxhole Farmhouse including - outbuildings adjoining to south - II

Farmhouse and adjoining outbuildings. House is C17 and outbuildings C17-C19. House is plastered cob on rubble footings with cob or rubble stacks topped with C20 brick and thatched roof. Outbuildings of mostly plastered rubble or cob on rubble footings with corrugated iron roof (formerly thatch). Main block facing south has 3-room-and-cross-passage plan with service end room at left (west) end. Passage may originally have been a through-passage. Rear now blocked by C19 stair. Small unheated inner room. Hall has projecting front lateral stack and service end room has projecting end stack. Original semi-circular newel projecting to rear of hall. A range of agricultural outbuilding comprising stables, barn and store is built at right angles adjoining right (east) end of front. House is 2 storeys with a not quite symmetrical 2-window front of late C19 casements with glazing bars and larger windows to ground floor. Central C19 plank door to passage. Outbuildings abutt projecting hall stack to right. Windows in right end are similar late C19 casements with glazing bars. Roof is hipped to right and gable-ended to left. Interior: very complete and little modernised C17 interior cob crosswall to left of passage. An oak plank-and-muntin screen to right (hall) with the muntins chamfered with scroll stops on both sides. Left room has an axial beam, hall has a cross- beam; both are chamfered with scroll stops. Left fireplace is blocked but hall has rubble fireplace with soffit-chamfered and scroll-stopped oak lintel. No detail shows in small unheated inner room. Roof not inspected. The outbuilding adjoining right end of front comprise from left (house end) to right; a rubble stable with hayloft over with front door and unglazed window to front and hayloft loading hatch to rear; cob barn with large central opposed doorways and remains of short projecting midstrey walls; and at right end a rubble store with blind front wall and entrance in end. Roof is hipped at end. Outbuildings are included for group value.
