Description
The mill, located approximately 4 metres east of Lower North Coombe Farmhouse, is now used as a store and is believed to date from the 17th century. It features partly rendered and painted stone rubble and cob walls, topped with a corrugated asbestos roof that was formerly thatched. The roof has a gable end on the left (north) and a hip that sweeps lower to the right. Originally, the mill likely consisted of two rooms, with a larger room in the middle and south. The waterwheel was originally located at the rear of this wider section.
The irregular west front includes a doorway on the left, which has an oak jamb and a cambered head, although it now has a later planked door. The only window on the first floor to the right is a 3-light unglazed oak window featuring two stop-chamfered mullions. The interior is currently an open space on the ground floor, with no machinery remaining, but the uneven rear wall, which incorporates timber lacing, shows significant evidence of its previous use. The roof structure has not been inspected.
