Description

The Trout Inn and Cobweb is a public house, possibly originally an inn and attached houses, likely dating from the 17th century. It is constructed of rendered cob with a wheat reed thatched roof and has two rear brick stacks positioned laterally. The building has a long, slightly cranked plan. Later alterations include the removal of some internal partitions and cross walls, as well as the rear wall on the far right to allow access to a large 20th-century extension. An old outshut is located at the rear far left.

The two-storey exterior has a seven-window range, plus a two-window single-storey range on the right, and a three-bay open-fronted building at the far right. Original 19th-century 12-pane, two-light casements are found in the third window from the left and the fifth ground-floor window from the left, while the remainder of the windows are 20th-century leaded casements with diamond panes. There are planked doors in the centre and towards the left, and a glazed doorway towards the right.

The interior retains a 17th-century fireplace with a bread oven in one room, and a number of chamfered crossbeams.
