Description
This is a fine red brick terrace of houses built around 1805. It was likely designed by Nosworthy and forms a curving row on Colleton Crescent. The terrace comprises ten houses, although the end houses may be later additions or have undergone alterations. The central five houses are slightly taller and project forward. The houses are four storeys high, with the end houses being three storeys. Decorative features include patent stone bands and a parapet cornice. The doorways have round arches defined by patent stone vermiculated quoins and voussoirs, with relief-carved heads to the keystones. Each doorway is paired with a panelled door, panelled reveals, and a fanlight decorated with honeysuckle tracery. No. 1 has a later projecting porch, and giant pilasters with acanthus capitals are present at No. 1 and No. 9. The ground floor windows are round-headed. Individual iron balconies are found on the first floor windows, except in two cases where a larger balcony serves three windows and includes a canopy. Original sash windows feature throughout, except at No. 9. Some original area railings remain. Inside, the entrance halls of some houses contain large, rectangular fanlights with leaded glazing. Houses numbered 1 to 9 form a harmonious group.
