Description

Broadway House, built in 1776, is a three-story, five-window red brick building. It has sash windows without glazing bars. A particularly fine Ionic doorcase features fluted pilasters and a pediment. The rear elevation includes a Venetian staircase window. The building has a modillion cornice and a hipped slate roof with brick end stacks.

Inside, the contemporary staircase, door-heads, and fireplaces retain original features. The hall contains panels of 17th-century Dutch-gilded and embossed leather, which were brought from an older house in Topsham. Plaster cornices are found in all ground and first floor rooms.

Broadway House forms a group of buildings alongside numbers 21-24, 26-28, 30, 32-34, and 37 on Broadway.
