Description
Franklyn Hospital is a two-storey building made of red brick, with the older part dating back to 1757, as indicated on the rainwater heads. The main facade features three windows with 9-light sashes, although the glazing bars have been removed. The entrance is adorned with Corinthian pilasters and a scrolled pediment, topped with a cartouche. Although the interior has been largely altered, it still showcases a fine staircase with heavy turned balusters and intricately carved vases and flowers on the newel caps. Both the staircase and the plaster ceiling in one room appear to be in a style that predates 1757. The building has a hipped slate roof and underwent alterations and extensions in 1972.
