Description
Cleve House is a 17th-century L-shaped house located on Exwick Lane, acquired by the Northmores around 1690. The structure and most interior fittings date from this time or slightly earlier, when the property was owned by Robert Gubbs. The front of the main wing appears to have been stuccoed and altered in the late 18th century. This front is two stories high with seven windows, featuring a central Venetian window on the first floor and an elegant Tuscan porch below. The doors include sidelights and a fanlight with gothic glazing bars. The subsidiary wing, which has a bell cupola, has been well modernised recently. Inside, there is a staircase, panelling, and one ground floor ceiling that likely dates from the late 17th century, while other fittings are from the late 18th century.
