Description
This barn, dated 1836, is located approximately 4 metres northeast of Panshayne Farmhouse in Yarcombe. It is constructed from local stone and flint rubble, topped with a slate roof. The barn serves as a threshing barn and features a central doorway that opens onto the threshing floor, facing south towards the farm courtyard. Built across the courtyard, it includes an external flight of stone steps leading to the front door, which is adorned with a Hamstone plaque displaying the date 1836. On the left (west) end, there is a full-height carriageway with large original double doors. The barn doors are also original, and the roof, which is gable-ended, has continuous coverage over both the carriageway and the barn, supported by original A-frame trusses. This barn is one of several notable structures built on the estate by Sir Frances Drake.
