Description

This is an 18th-century headstone located approximately 3 metres south of the chancel of the Church of St Mary in Luppitt. Made of hamstone, the upright slab stands about 1.2 metres high. It features a shaped head that is intricately carved with scrolls and an hourglass, which is flanked by winged cherub heads. The central panel is bordered by a frame adorned with scroll foliage. The inscription is in Roman serif upper and lower case lettering, but it is so faint that it is illegible except in perfect lighting conditions.
