Description
The Devon Hotel is a building that was originally a rectory, dating from the 18th century to the early 19th century, with later extensions from the 19th century. It features a stuccoed exterior and a slate roof with gabled ends and bracketed eaves soffit. The structure has two storeys and an attic, arranged in three bays. It includes large sash windows with glazing bars and a large modern glazed porch on the left side. The gable end has a segmental-headed attic sash window with gothick glazing bars, and there are rendered ridge chimney stacks.
To the left (west) and rear (north) of the main building, there is a later 19th-century wing that is also two storeys and three bays wide, featuring corner pilasters with a key pattern. The wing has a late 19th-century pierced quatrefoil parapet and a large stone bay window on the ground floor, which has similar parapets.
Inside, there is reused 17th-century carved panelling in the overmantel of the reception room. The dining room is designed in a late 19th-century Jacobean style, featuring dado panelling with finials, an overmantel, an overdoor, and a panelled coved ceiling with pendants. In the cellar, there is a heavy chamfered ceiling beam.
