Description

The forge located approximately 50 meters northeast of Bicton House is a Grade II listed building, likely built around 1800 and later enlarged in the 19th century. It was converted into a classroom around 1945. The structure is made of Flemish bond red brick set on stone rubble footings, topped with a slate roof. It is a single-storey building with its main facade facing south, flanked by projecting small rooms. The northern end features an extension.

The south end showcases a large round-headed archway and includes a plat band at the impost level. The eaves cornice is adorned with dentils created by brick headers, and the roof is hipped. The flanking rooms are slightly recessed from the main front, each featuring a round-headed window, with the right room containing the oldest window, which has a grille. Both rooms have hipped roofs.

The right side of the building displays a four-window front interrupted by two doorways, with only the left-hand window being original, featuring a low segmental arch above it. Above this window, there is a series of ventilators or pigeon holes formed by missing brick headers. The section to the right is constructed of a different brick but maintains the same style. The windows and doors are from the 20th century. A board positioned high near the right end bears a notice stating: "The SMITHS employed in this shop are ordered to shoe no Horses and to do no work for any strangers whatever or they will be discharged." The roof at this end is also hipped. The interior shows only 20th-century details from the classroom conversion, and the roof was not inspected.
