Description

Lower Bruckland Farm House is a farmhouse dating from the 16th or 17th century, constructed from stone rubble. It has an asbestos slate roof with gabled ends, and the roof at the south end is at a lower level. The building is two storeys high and features a long range of six windows, which include one, two, and three-light casements with glazing bars. There are two plain doorways; one has a plank door and the other is glazed. The chimney stacks at the ridge and ends have been rebuilt in brick. On the west side, there are two chamfered stone window frames, one of which has a dripmould. The west side also includes a modern gabled wing and lean-tos.

Inside, the farmhouse has an open fireplace with a chamfered stone four-centred arch to the side, and another open fireplace features a cambered chamfered timber bressummer and an oven. The ceilings have chamfered beams.

Adjoining the farmhouse to the northeast is an outbuilding, which dates from the 18th century or possibly earlier. This outbuilding is also made of stone rubble and has a slate hipped roof. It features a recess with external stairs leading to a loft door. Inside the loft, there is a small stone window with a four-centred arch. The room below has a similar window that has been reset from the west elevation of the farmhouse. The outbuilding contains the remains of a cider press.
