Description
These are farm buildings dating from the late 18th century to early 19th century, located to the north of Woodhayes Farmhouse. They are constructed of plastered cob on stone rubble footings, with some brick patching and a slate roof. The buildings consist of two wings that, along with the farmhouse to the south, enclose three sides of a farmyard.
The west wing features a 5-bay linhay with a dairy and a small store above at the left (south) end, which adjoins Woodhayes Farmhouse. The north wing is a 7-bay linhay. Originally, these linhays were open-fronted byres with haylofts in the upper level, but they have since been enclosed with concrete block walls and weatherboarding. The design follows Alcock's linhay type T1, with roughly finished crossbeams attached to full-height timber posts, and the outer principals of the roof resting on the tops of these posts. Inside, there is plain carpentry detail and a roof supported by A-frame trusses with spiked lap-jointed collars.
