Description
The Jubilee Pump is a water pump and trough dated 1897, built to commemorate the sixty-year jubilee of Queen Victoria's reign. It is constructed from local flint rubble with limestone ashlar detailing. The basin is designed in the shape of a scallop shell and is supported by a square-section pedestal. This pedestal is set within a round-headed niche that features plain imposts and a gabled roof. In front of the niche are two water-holding steps that project forward in semi-circles. The pump is positioned back from the road in a semi-circular recess, where flint rubble quadrant walls curve forward on either side. These walls have a rusticated coping and a shelf at the base, with each wall containing a segmental-headed alcove. Above the basin at the back of the niche is a limestone plaque with lead lettering that reads: "Erected by voluntary subscription AD 1897 in commemoration of the completion of the sixtieth year of the reign of Queen Victoria." Additionally, above the niche is another plaque displaying the initials VR along with the dates 1837 and 1897.
