Description
Knowle is a country house built in the 17th century, which was remodeled around 1840-50 to incorporate Gothic details. The building is constructed of stone rubble and sits on a plinth, featuring two storeys. The east front has wider outer bays, all three of which are gabled and adorned with saddlestones and finials. There are five stone mullioned and transomed windows with splayed reveals, drip moulds, and stone relieving arches above them. The house has a two-storey porch with a pointed arched doorway that also has a drip mould. The roof has a steep pitch and is covered with slate, while stone chimneys with offsets rise from the structure. Knowle is located in a picturesque setting near the hamlet in Sidbury Parish, to the northeast of Sidmouth.
